getUBetter goes live in Wales

Bristol, UK – 17th July 2025 – getUBetter has launched its digital self-management support for all common musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions in Wales. The new partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board marks a major milestone in the company’s expansion and a significant step forward in supporting people living with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions across the UK.

As a result of the partnership, patients across the Merthyr Tydfil Cluster are now able to access the getUBetter app through their GP practices and Prince Charles Hospital. The free, evidence-based, and locally tailored self-management support is helping people to confidently manage their MSK recovery journey while improving system efficiency.

Co-designed with patients and clinicians, including emergency care experts, GPs, physiotherapists, and Health board / NHS stakeholders. getUBetter empowers people with evidence-based content configured to local care pathways. It gives people the confidence, knowledge, and skills to self-manage recovery and reduce avoidable demand on the system. The app delivers day-by-day, step-by-step guidance tailored to each patient’s stage of recovery, including personalised exercises, symptom tracking, and advice on when and where to seek help.

The platform supports all common MSK injuries and conditions, including back, leg, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot pain—as well as sprains, strains, and tendinopathy. The configuration of clinical pathways, bespoke content for the local population, and access to local treatment and services have been approved by the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board clinical team though a governance process.  This ensures safe, effective, and personalised local care.

To ensure accessibility and inclusion, the app is available in 14 languages (including Welsh), with video subtitles and touch-to-speak functionality available. This feature was a crucial requirement for Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, enabling the service to meet the needs of its population.

“This is an exciting development for patients in Cwm Taf Morgannwg,” said Dr Carey McClellan, Founder and CEO at getUBetter. “Our partnership with the Health Board is proof that our configurable deployment model works across both England and Wales. It demonstrates how digital health tools like ours can translate meaningfully across UK healthcare systems and improve outcomes at a population level.”

In addition to its clinical content, getUBetter bridges the gap between health, work, and community services, offering immediate access to a wide range of local services for those who could benefit from additional support, including help to return to or remain at work.

“People who live in Merthyr Tydfil are the first in Wales to be able to access the getUBetter app. We’re proud to be able to support our community with this tried and tested way” said Clare Connor, Consultant Physiotherapist at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

“If you or someone you know live in Merthyr Tydfil and need help with a muscle, joint or bone problem, I recommend the getUBetter app as the first place to go to for safe and effective advice. It will help you achieve what matters to you,” she added.

The rollout at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board highlights the growing recognition of digital self-management as a vital part of modern MSK care – and a powerful tool to help people recover independently while relieving pressure on healthcare services.
