Driving Prevention-led Public Health Campaigns
At getUBetter, we support the NHS’s strategic priorities by providing safe self-managed care. Our digital platform drives prevention, tackles health inequalities, and improves local healthcare access. We believe one way of supporting public health whilst delivering sustainable system change is to engage people earlier in their care journey. By implementing well-designed public health campaigns as a mechanism to connect individuals to clinically validated content, we can increase accessibility whilst ensuring support is tailored to local population need.

A Population Health Approach
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions represent one of the highest drivers of demand across primary and community care. However, a significant proportion can be safely and effectively self-managed when individuals receive timely, evidence-based guidance.
getUBetter supports this population health approach by:
- Delivering consistent, NHS-aligned advice across the full pathway
- Enabling early intervention and prevention
- Reducing avoidable demand on clinical services
- Supporting individuals to self-manage safely and confidently
The latest Leeds campaign shows how population health principles can be applied to increase visibility of access, and support the ongoing capacity issues within The NHS.
Some practices report an uptake of up to 36%
Measurable Impact for Reaching Communities
To demonstrate the value of place-based, targeted engagement, getUBetter ads were delivered across high-footfall local transport routes across the city of Leeds, reaching a diverse population at neighbourhood level. The increased visibility of trusted, NHS digital support encouraged earlier engagement through self-managed pathways.
Importantly, the bus ads contributed to an increased uptake across all practices within the Leeds Health and Care Partnership (LHCP), with some practices reporting increases of up to 36%. Demonstrating that targeted, locally relevant public health interventions can drive measurable behaviour change at scale. Public health campaigns are a key enabler in engaging individuals and offering an alternative route to individuals, before they access the overwhelmed parts of the healthcare system. Inequalities are also addressed, improving timely access to care.
However, effective population targeting needs system-wide collaboration. Maximum impact campaigns must be delivered in partnership across Integrated Care Systems, including commissioners, primary care, public health teams, community organisations, and local authorities. Ensuring alignment with local population need and inequality priorities, rather than being solely driven by technology providers.

Driving Scalable, Evidence-based Impact Through Whole Pathway Transformation
Beyond awareness, public health campaigns support the enablement of whole pathway transformation across ICSs. By directing individuals to safe, self-managed care, systems can reduce demand across primary care, MSK services, and elective pathways whilst improving patient flow, with appropriate navigation back into NHS care when indicated. The increase in consistency of care and advice can also help support a patient’s confidence with future self-management.
By combining targeted public health engagement with a proven digital solution, getUBetter enables systems to deliver local change with national impact that is scalable across ICSs and regions. Aligning with NHS priorities, including prevention, digital access, and demand management. Contributing to a more efficient allocation of clinical resource and ensuring capacity is focused on patients with the greatest need.
By supporting the availability of tools that self-manage safely to the public, getUBetter is helping to shift care upstream. Supporting healthier populations, more sustainable services, and better outcomes for all.
