The Challenge:

Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions affect approximately 20 million people in the UK, making them one of the leading causes of economic inactivity. With MSK problems resulting in 24 million lost working days annually the impact reaches far beyond the health system into workplaces, and the UK economy. In response, the UK government launched WorkWell an initiative for ICSs which was focused on reducing economic inactivity, with an emphasis on mental health and MSK conditions.

Frimley ICS’s Approach:

Since 2022, Frimley ICS has been providing getUBetter, a digital self-management support for all common MSK conditions, to their population alongside routine MSK care.   Recent evaluation revealed a significant reduction in the need for fit notes in primary care for those using getUBetter. These positive results led to Frimley ICS securing funding through the WorkWell initiative, which aims to develop integrated local work and health support services, helping people to return to work.

Why You Should Watch:
In this webinar, Frimley ICS shares key insights on how implementing digital self-management for MSK conditions across the NHS can impacts the whole pathway while contributing to the broader governmental ambition of tackling ill-health related economic inactivity.
